Confirmed starting XI: Shrewsbury vs Man Utd

Manchester United: Romero; Varela, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson; Schneiderlin, Herrera; Memphis, Mata, Lingard; Martial

Subs: Henderson, McNair, Poole, Carrick, Pereira, Riley, Keane

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has named a strong team for the FA Cup clash against Shrewsbury this evening, with Guillermo Varela, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Morgan Schneiderlin coming into the side.

Juan Mata keeps his place despite his subpar performance against FC Midtjylland last time out, meaning Andreas Pereira has to settle for a place on the substitute’s bench.

Anthony Martial, meanwhile, leads the line in the continued absence of the injured Wayne Rooney.

Confidence in van Gaal is at an all-time low following the 2-1 defeat against Midtjylland and you would think that a loss tonight would be the final nail in the coffin for the Dutchman. Anything less than a convincing victory would be another sickening blow in what has been a terrible season for United.
