Louis van Gaal confirms David de Gea isn’t as serious as first feared

Louis van Gaal has confirmed David de Gea‘s injury isn’t as serious as was first feared but remained coy as to whether he will return to face FC Midtjylland on Thursday.

The Manchester United goalkeeper went off in the warm-up in Denmark with a knee injury leading to major concerns over whether his injury was serious and could see him sidelined for some time.

However, speaking ahead of the Shrewsbury Town game, van Gaal allayed fears of United fans.

When asked if De Gea’s injury isn’t as serious as first feared, van Gaal said: “That’s true. We have to wait and see if he is available for Thurs. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Guillermo Varela are back.”

I’d much rather see De Gea get the extra few days rest and not start against FC Midtjylland so he is completely fit to face Arsenal at the weekend, regardless of how important that Europa League tie I still consider the Premier League as the priority.

We’ll likely have to wait until Friday for further confirmation from van Gaal on De Gea’s fitness ahead of Arsenal but it’s very good news to hear his injury isn’t serious.
