Regan Poole delighted at becoming Manchester United first-team squad member

Regan Poole is understandably delighted with his progress over the last month at Manchester United.

Having had to wait from August 2015 until the start of February 2016 to get his international clearance following a move from Welsh side Newport County, Poole has found himself rapidly accelerated through the ranks.

Within that short space of time since the start of February, Poole has made his U21s debut, trained with the first-team and was included in his first match-day squad for the trip to FC Midtjylland.

Injuries provided Poole with the opportunity and Louis van Gaal‘s style of giving youngsters a taste of the match-day experience saw him on the bench in Denmark, something which will now be thinking about for a long time yet.

It’s the best sort of motivation you can give to a youngster I think. Once they have been part of the occasion, that’s something they’ll want again as soon as possible and it showed them what was possible if they worked hard enough to earn the opportunity.

While I don’t see Poole in the first-team any time soon because the likes of RoShaun Williams, Axel Tuanzebe and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are ahead of him in the pecking order, the mere fact he was part of the travelling team will have had an impact on him mentally.

Hopefully Poole can now take that positivity back to the U21s where Warren Joyce’s side are chasing the U21s Premier League title and we’ll see the best of the young Welshman.
