Louis van Gaal was bullish with regards to Manchester United’s of silverware after Monday night’s 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.
Despite only a few days ago saying Man United had lost their factor following the 2-1 defeat to FC Midtjylland, van Gaal is now looking upwards to Manchester City and the all important fourth place spot.
Speaking after the game, he said: “We are in all the competitions, just six points behind Manchester City, we have a lot of chances, a lot of titles to fight for.
“It isn’t easy because we have to win a lot of games but it is still possible.”
Yes we are technically still in some competitions but the Europa League isn’t the Champions League is it Louis? Let’s get that straight.
There’s one thing I do agree with Louis on though – we are certainly not out of the top four race and a win over Arsenal will reinvigorate that on Sunday. A loss, combined with a Man City win, could make that gap too much.
As for United’s title chances elsewhere, we’re now in the quarter-final of the FA Cup against West Ham United and that’s got to be our best chance of silverware this season. The Europa League will be very tough to win and the Premier League is already out of reach.
So, I don’t think we’ve got plenty of silverware to fight for this season but with a top four spot still in reach and a potential cup double on the cards, all is not lost yet.
Disclaimer – I still want van Gaal to be sacked and none of this changes that at all.
