Memphis Depay determined to carry form into Arsenal clash

Memphis Depay has expressed his desire to maintain the encouraging form he showed in the 5-1 win over FC Midtjylland against Arsenal on Sunday.

The Dutchman was an unstoppable force on the left hand side in what was a must-win game, forcing an own goal and scoring one of his own in what turned out to be an easy victory.

Speaking after the game, Memphis emphasised the importance of focusing on the much larger test of Arsenal this weekend.

“Tonight was good and we enjoyed it out on the pitch,” he said.

“Everybody could see that. We are very happy to go through and we have to keep this spirit in the team as we move forward to Sunday.”

Thursday’s result could have grander connotations than merely a top performance. Displays like Memphis’ have the power to restore life into an attacking lineup, and to sharpen what has too often been a woefully blunt attacking object.

No.7s represent more than just merely a shirt. They represent more than just dynamic forwards; they are the main entertainers, the stars of the show. And Memphis, who has been a shell of his real self in a United shirt, unleashed that showmanship against Midtjylland.

A man who begun the night with a lot to prove ended it as a man brimming with confidence. He, above anyone, will want to continue this irresistible form in another must-win game against Arsenal.
