Predicted XI: Manchester United vs Arsenal – Martial, Smalling and De Gea in

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea I think he’ll start against Arsenal, Louis van Gaal has said he expects him to.

Joe Riley Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is out with an illness and Riley did pretty well on his full debut against FC Midtjylland.

Daly Blind – So long as Michael Carrick doesn’t partner him, he should be OK in defence.

Chris Smalling Big call for him to return from injury in this game but we desperately need Smalling to start.

Guillermo Varela I’m a fan of Varela. He will be up for a big test against Arsenal though.

Morgan Schneiderlin Morgan needs to step up because this game will be won or lost in midfield.

Ander Herrera About time for the Spaniard to start really showing the sort of form which made him a fans’ favourite.

Juan Mata A player like Juan could make all the difference with his sharp passing.

Memphis Depay The man of the moment after Midtjylland. Can he turn Bellerin inside out? Fans are hoping so.

Jesse Lingard I don’t think he should start but get the feeling he will. Would rather see Pereira there.

Anthony Martial Van Gaal has said Marcus Rashford won’t start against Arsenal, so I presume Martial is back and fit.

Formation – 4-2-3-1: Schneiderlin will more than likely play in a deeper midfield role alongside Herrera or whoever partners him but it will be a 4-2-3-1 on paper.
