Louis van Gaal: I have never seeing the dressing room like that

Louis van Gaal has revealed he’s never seen the Manchester United dressing room as happy as it was following the club’s Europa League victory over FC Midtjylland.

The Dutchman’s side scored five goals at Old Trafford for the first time since December 2011 and cruised into the next stage of the European competition.

Marcus Rashford scored twice on his debut, Memphis Depay played one of his best games of the season and Marcos Rojo made an appearance after months out due to injury.

Speaking about the game, van Gaal insists the players must carry the confidence into the game against Arsenal at Old Trafford this weekend.

“I have never seen the dressing room like that,” said van Gaal.

“It was not only the players who played but also those on the bench and the players who are injured. They were all there laughing and talking with each other. They were all happy.

“Normally I would expect this, a lot of confidence, but now we have to play against one of the best teams in the Premier League. It’s a challenge on Sunday and more of a challenge because we have to play within two days. That’s also different, but I think the recovery can go better than ever.”

The players haven’t had too much to celebrate this season really have they and to be fair that’s just as much their fault as it is van Gaal but going into the Arsenal game, a buzzing dressing room is exactly what we need.

United need to play like a team to beat Arsenal on Sunday and the only way they can do that is if the squad is happy and working in unison. By the sounds of it, that’s exactly what it is.
