Louis van Gaal has hailed Marcus Rashford as a “special talent” following the youngster’s display in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Rashford scored twice and created another on his Premier League debut as Man United sealed a memorable victory over the Gunners.

The performance capped off a memorable week for Rashford following another brace in the win over FC Midtjylland on Thursday. Van Gaal lavished praise on the youngster following the clash.

“That is why we have a small selection because then you can give youngsters a chance. A big selection means they don’t get a chance,” van Gaal said.

“The experience of mine is youngsters always play well the first match. The second match is different. Marcus played well in both matches so he is a special talent.”

Rashford etched his name into United folklore following the performance against Arsenal. Clinical and intelligent, the display belied his years.

United have a long history of bringing through young talent and Rashford continued that on Sunday. Louis van Gaal has taken his fair share of flak this term but his handling of young players has been a huge highlight of his reign.
