From Spain: Jose Mourinho has signed pre-contract agreement with Manchester United

Spanish newspaper El Pais have today published an article with some interesting reports on Jose Mourinho and his potential move to Manchester United.

El Pais say Real Madrid president Florentino Perez had been in contact with Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes over a potential return to the Spanish club prior to Zinedine Zidane’s appointment but negotiations halted because a pre-contract agreement was signed with Manchester United.

They continue by suggesting that agreement cannot be broken and put an end to any possibility of a Madrid return for Mourinho.

This is, of course, not the first time there has been claims of a pre-contract agreement between Mourinho and United as they emerged at the start of February but it’s the first suggestion Madrid had actively attempted to bring Mourinho back to Real Madrid and failed.

Mourinho himself has already actively said he wants to join a new club in the summer which rules out Madrid regardless but maybe Mendes had been negotiating his position behind the scenes beforehand, at least that’s what El Pais say happened.

I’m still under no doubts that I want Mourinho to replace Louis van Gaal and everything is still pointing towards that happening but until the time an official statement is made, we’ll all be concerned the speculation is wrong.
