Manchester United have used the most amount of players in the Premier League this season, summing up just how bad the situation at Old Trafford has been in terms of injuries.
Marcus Rashford, James Weir and Timothy Fosu-Mensah all made their league debuts for Man United against Arsenal on Sunday, bringing the total amount of players Louis van Gaal has used this term up to 33.
United are followed by Newcastle United (30) and then Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Sunderland and West Ham United (all 28). Leicester City and Arsenal (both 23) have used the fewest and are joined by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City (both 24).
United have had to contend with an injury crisis as of late, meaning van Gaal has been forced to throw a number of youth players into the mix.
The likes of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Joe Riley, Rashford and Fosu-Mensah have all made the step up over the course of the campaign, and by and large they have done well. It has been fantastic to see from a supporters point of view, as United have continued their tradition of nurturing young talent.
Of course, van Gaal’s hand has been forced by the injuries, but the Dutchman still deserves credit for the way he has phased the youngsters into the team. There has been plenty of doom and gloom surrounding Old Trafford this season, and with good reason, but there is no arguing that the future is bright at the club.
