Wayne Rooney still in a knee brace after injury

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Wayne Rooney is still in a leg brace as the 30-year-old continues his recovery from knee ligament damage.

Rooney suffered the injury mid-February, with reports suggesting he could be out of action for up to two months.

With Anthony Martial also on the sidelines in recent weeks, Marcus Rashford has ably made the step up to first team affairs, scoring twice and creating another in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

When asked about the subject in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Watford on Wednesday, van Gaal simply said: “Rooney is still in a brace.”

Rooney had been one of United’s best players in 2016 prior to his injury and his absence came as a blow.

While Rashford has burst onto the scene as of late, van Gaal will be keen to get Rooney back on the pitch as soon as possible. Rooney’s leadership and experience could prove to be invaluable as United look to make a success of their campaign.
