Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has that insisted supporters are unlikely to see another display of theatrics like the one against Arsenal on Sunday.
Van Gaal dropped to the ground at Old Trafford to make a point to fourth official Mike Dean following an alleged dive from Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
In what was already a memorable afternoon for fans, van Gaal’s dive was a funny moment. However, the man himself insisted he is not a “clown” and that he will not come off his seat in the dugout much more often.
“It is not a part of my philosophy, because I don’t think you can influence the game from that spot,” van Gaal said.
“But I am not a clown, I am Louis van Gaal, I am a human being and a manager. And the players have to think on the pitch, not the manager.”
Van Gaal has been roundly criticised at points this term but there is no denying that the Dutchman has a unique and charming personality.
As well as his ‘dive’ against Arsenal, supporters have seen a slightly inebriated van Gaal deliver a rousing speech at the club’s end of season awards and proclaim that his players must be “horny” in the future. There is a question mark over whether he is the right man to lead United forward but he has given fans plenty of memorable moments during his time in charge.
