Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira score in Man United Reserves’ 4-0 rout of Oldham Athletic

Adnan Januzaj scored two goals and Andreas Pereira bagged one in Manchester United’s Reserves’ 4-0 rout of Oldham Athletic in the Manchester Senior Cup.

Both players were left out of Man United’s match day squad against West Bromwich Albion this weekend so it’s good to see them scoring but given how poor we were at the weekend, questions will surely be asked as to whether either player should have been in the first-team squad.

Given that James Weir was on the bench, either Januzaj and Pereira aren’t at full match fitness yet or something else is stopping them from being selected for the first-team by Louis van Gaal.

I’m a big fan of Januzaj and Pereira. They are two of the most naturally talented players who have come through our academy in recent years but they’ve struggled to break through into the first-team on a regular basis, and they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

Too good for U21s football but deemed not good enough for first-team football, their opportunities are currently limited but at least scoring goals will put them in the spotlight once again.

Played behind closed doors, United were in cruise control and swept Oldham aside to reach the semi-final in which they’ll play Bury.
