Manchester United scout Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak – report

Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak ahead of a potential summer transfer, according to Kicker.

Toprak has made 159 appearances for the German club since making his debut in 2011 and has now been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League.

Louis van Gaal may struggle to lure him to Old Trafford as Leverkusen are allegedly keen to keep hold of the defender, who is under contract until 2018.

Man United have gone through an injury crisis in recent weeks, with the likes of Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo all spending time on the sidelines.

Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones, meanwhile, are still on the treatment table.

United have had to throw youngsters such as Donald Love and Joe Riley into the starting XI over the course of the campaign and it would be a sensible move to bring in Toprak and add depth to the squad.
