Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is back in light training and is hopeful of returning to full fitness by the end of the month, according to The Daily Mail.

Rooney suffered knee ligament damage in the 2-1 defeat against Sunderland last month.

The 30-year-old was recently granted permission by Louis van Gaal to enjoy a warm weather break in Dubai and Rooney is now no longer wearing a protective brace on his knee.

Rooney will miss the important March period for Man United but he should be back for the clash against former side Everton on April 3rd.

However, he will take no risks with his fitness with the European Championships on the horizon.

Following a disappointing 2015, Rooney had been one of United’s best players following the turn of the year. His injury came as a blow but it has allowed players such as Marcus Rashford to come to the fore. Van Gaal will be keen for his captain to come back as soon as possible.
