Wayne Rooney walking without knee brace as he steps up injury recovery

by Tanveer Arayan

Wayne Rooney has stepped up his recovery from a knee injury and is now walking without his supportive knee brace.

The Manchester United captain suffered knee ligament damage in the 2-1 loss away to Sunderland on 13 February and has been out of action since.

Rooney is not expected to return to action before the end of March but it looks like his recovery is going to plan.

One reservation I have got about Rooney’s return is whether it’s actually going to benefit United overall. It all depends on what Rooney comes back from injury.

If it’s the Rooney who was in fine form since 2016 prior to his injury, then I’d welcome him back into the team with open arms. If it’s the Rooney who started the 2015/16 in terrible form for the first few months, then I’m really not sure.

We all know Rooney is going to automatically come back into the team regardless but history has shown us it takes a few consistent games for him to get playing in full flow again, so it could well be a slow start for him back in the team.
