Manchester United squad vs Liverpool: Bastian Schweinsteiger included

by Sam Peoples

Bastian Schweinsteiger has been included in Manchester United’s squad to face Liverpool in the Europa League tonight.

The German midfielder only returned to training this week following a long lay off with a knee injury but Louis van Gaal has deemed him fit enough to come come straight back in.

I’d say it’s extremely unlikely Schweinsteiger has any chance of starting the game but maybe if we need a calming presence for the last 15 minutes, he might be brought on to slow things down.

Although there are only 15 players listed here, United will have 18 in total. Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and either Paddy McNair or Antonio Valencia are likely to make up those last three spots.

Here’s the confirmed squad via Manchester Evening News: De Gea, Romero, Blind, Varela, Smalling, Rojo, Riley, Mata, Herrera, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Martial, Rashford, Memphis

There is no Regan Poole in this list from MEN despite him being left out of the Wales U19s squad this week, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the 17-year-old.

Jesse Lingard is of course suspended and Timothy Fosu-Mensah is ineligible for the game.
