Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand’s reaction to United’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool

Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand’s reaction to Manchester United’s embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Europa League summed everything up for fans.

Their faces were blank in disbelief at what they had just watched, a Man United team come away from Anfield with their tail between their legs after a performance which didn’t have a hint of fight in.

It was embarrassing. There is no other word to describe it. Regardless of the result against Liverpool, you want United’s players to come away from the game knowing they had given absolutely everything to try and win it but tonight it couldn’t have been more opposite than that.

De Gea is the only United player who can walk away from Anfield knowing he gave absolutely everything on the pitch. Everyone else was poor, some were atrocious but not one outfield player put their all on the line for the game and Liverpool took advantage.

I’m not sure where we can move on from here other than to say we’re not at all surprised by the result and that, for me, is the worst part of it all.
