Manchester United fans tell Michael Carrick his time is up following error against Liverpool

Michael Carrick had an evening to forget as Manchester United were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at Anfield in the Europa League on Thursday.

Carrick was brought on at half-time by Louis van Gaal but the veteran’s awful clearance eventually led to Roberto Firmino giving Liverpool an imposing two-goal aggregate lead ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford next week.

Man United fans weren’t happy with Carrick following the error:

Aside from David de Gea, who kept United in the tie with a series of excellent saves, every single one of the players let themselves down at Anfield.

There was no fight, no desire and no urgency on what is one of the biggest fixtures of the year for supporters.

Van Gaal’s substitutions, too, were awful. Keeping Marouane Fellaini on, while adding three central midfielders in Carrick, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ander Herrera? Bizarre. It’s hard to imagine United progressing to the next round of the competition.
