Former Netherlands international Wim Kieft calls Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal a ‘clown’

Former Netherlands international Wim Kieft has labelled Louis van Gaal “a clown” who is “addicted to attention” following Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday.

Van Gaal has come under huge pressure at Old Trafford following a series of disappointing performances this term.

The loss against Liverpool, which came thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino, has left Man United on the brink of exiting yet another competition prematurely.

“Van Gaal is just a clown,” Kieft said.

“It’s all show for the public. Louis is addicted to attention, like everyone at that level. It’s a stage for him, challenging him every time. And he think he does everything right. On the other hand, if he had been as dull as his predecessor David Moyes, he would have had long layoffs.”

Van Gaal has certainly performed a number of theatrics this term, with his ‘dive’ against Arsenal and ‘horny’ comments immediately springing to mind.

The Dutchman’s character is somewhat endearing but performances and results have been abysmal and van Gaal should have been sacked months ago. Not getting rid of him in December has proven to be a huge mistake in terms of United’s top four challenge.
