Marouane Fellaini faces no action after Emre Can elbow incident

UEFA have confirmed that no action will be taken against Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini following his alleged elbow on Liverpool’s Emre Can in the Europa League clash between the two sides last week.

Fellaini appeared to strike Can with his elbow in the dying moments of the game at Anfield, which Man United lost 2-0.

The incident was not spotted by officials and they did not include it in their match report, meaning UEFA will not take any retrospective punishment with Fellaini.

Fellaini’s gangly and imposing frame lends itself to a physical style of play and it is a wonder how he has avoided seeing red this season.

The Belgian also got himself about against West Ham United on Sunday but his impact on a technical level was minimal.

With Bastian Schweinsteiger back following injury, supporters will be hoping that the German starts over Fellaini in the second leg of the Europa League tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Thursday.
