Paul Ince: Manchester United are more than capable of beating Liverpool

Paul Ince believes former side Manchester United are more than capable of beating Liverpool and advancing to the next round of the Europa League on Thursday.

Man United suffered a 2-0 loss in the first leg at Anfield last week, with Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino both scoring.

The result left United with an uphill task but Ince insisted that Louis van Gaal’s side can register a big win against Liverpool.

“On their day, Man Utd can beat anybody,” Ince said.

“I don’t care about their form or how they’re playing; at Old Trafford with 75,000 people there, if they can get the early goal they can do it.”

Ordinarily, supporters would agree with Ince. Old Trafford has traditionally been a fortress where United have thrived in the face of adversity.

However, this season has zapped fans of their optimism. Van Gaal has overseen a miserable campaign in which United’s identity has disappeared and there is no evidence to suggest that they can produce a big performance against Liverpool. It’s a sorry state of affairs and one that van Gaal has to take the blame for.
