Manchester United vs Liverpool: Match day squads – Herrera and Blind missing

by Sam Peoples

Ander Herrera and Daley Blind are both not part of Manchester United’s match day squad to face Liverpool tonight.

Blind has played 12 consecutive full 90 minutes for Man United and his jaded form means it isn’t too much of a surprise to see him finally given a rest, especially in a game which is going to be as intense as this.

However, Herrera’s absence comes as a major surprise and a real blow for Man United. The Spanish midfielder might not be in the absolute best of form recently but in a game like tonight, there aren’t any other central midfielders who are capable of playing like him and we need quick passing football.

In other good news, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is back in the match day squad but it remains to be seen whether it is too early for him to return to the starting XI.

Here is United’s squad as detailed by the Manchester Evening News: De Gea, Romero, Valencia, Darmian, Varela, Smalling, Williams, Borthwick-Jackson, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Carrick, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Martial, Rashford
