Paul Scholes: Ryan Giggs has what it takes to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United

Paul Scholes believes Ryan Giggs has what it takes to replace Louis van Gaal as manager of Manchester United.

Van Gaal has come under huge pressure at Man United following his side’s Europa League exit at the hands of Liverpool on Thursday.

Jose Mourinho is said to be the front-runner to take over in the event of van Gaal’s sacking but Scholes, who won a number of trophies during his playing days at United, backed former teammate Giggs to take on the role.

“Why not Ryan Giggs? He knows the club, the standards and the expectations,” Scholes said.

“I speak to fans who say they need someone with experience. Have we not had that for the past two years?”

While it would be fantastic to see Giggs, a club legend, take United back to where they belong, it would simply be too much of a gamble.

United have had a turbulent few years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure and they need someone who would be a safe bet in terms of bringing back success. Mourinho, having won trophies at every club he has managed, is the closest thing to a ‘sure thing’ in management and United would be wise to bring him in.
