Manchester United forward Anthony Martial admits he does get frustrated with himself when he fails to score.
The 20-year-old moved to Old Trafford from AS Monaco in the summer in a £36m deal that made him the most expensive teenager of all time, without a single appearance for France.
Since joining, Martial has registered seven goals and three assists in 23 Premier League appearances, and 12 goals in all competitions, despite being played out of position and has quickly become one of Louis van Gaal‘s most influential players.
Despite his cool demeanour, Martial doesn’t want that to be misinterpreted.
He said: “I have always been that way, and people’s opinions will not change it, but one must know that when I fail to score a goal I do get angry with myself.
“I have always been like that and I have been told that quite a lot. It’s true that everything just went very quick [when he signed for United], but I kept a cool head and focused on playing football.
“I have worked hard for it and today I am reaping the reward.”
Martial will forever be remembered for how ice cool he was on his debut for Man United against Liverpool when he came off the bench to score an incredible goal which quickly poured cold water on the ‘What a waste of money’ newspaper headlines.
Since then he has gone on from strength to strength at United and the fact he’s now one of the first names on our team-sheet says it all. He’s this good already, how good could he be in a few years?
