Local lads rule the roost in Manchester derby

by Sam Peoples

Jesse Lingard, 23, born in Warrington, 16 miles west of Manchester. Marcus Rashford, 18, born in Wythenshaw, Manchester. Two local lads who took centre stage at the Etihad.

Man United has always been and always will be a club who treasures its youth and their performances in the Manchester derby goes to show exactly why that will never change.

Rashford’s stunning goal proved to be the difference and Lingard was excellent for 90 minutes in a game he showed so much fight and desire in. You saw how much the derby meant to him, it was more than just a game, and their fist bump at half-time was mint to see.

I’m sorry but you can’t beat watching a local lad thriving in the spotlight and for Manchester born Rashford to sink oil funded City was poetry in motion. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, local talent is where the heart is.

It’s what makes United special and what I love about the club. Yes there are a set of circumstances which has seen plenty of youngsters play out of necessity under Louis van Gaal more than anything else but when you see Lingard and Rashford doing so well in the derby, you really don’t care about the context do you?
