Michael Carrick ‘relaxed’ about Manchester United future

Michael Carrick has insisted that he is “relaxed” about his Manchester United future despite the fact that his contract at the club expires in the summer.

Carrick is yet to agree a new deal at Old Trafford, meaning he will be a free agent in the summer.

The 34-year-old is entering the twilight of his career and he has attracted criticism for some subpar performances lately. However, Carrick is not getting too worried about the situation just yet.

“I am not sure yet to be honest, no. I haven’t heard anything just at the moment, no. Hopefully (I will) sometime soon,” Carrick said.

“I am not making a big deal of it, to be honest. I will just have to wait and see what happens. I am quite relaxed about it.”

While Carrick has disappointed at points this season, the same could be said for the majority of his teammates.

Generally, when he plays well, United play well, as demonstrated in the 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday. Carrick is one of the most experienced players in the squad and it would be beneficial to keep him as his knowhow could prove to be invaluable to the younger players coming through.
