Patrick Kluivert: Jose Mourinho would play youth at Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert believes that Jose Mourinho will give youth a chance if he replaces Louis van Gaal as manager of Manchester United.

Numerous reports last week suggested that Mourinho has signed a pre-contract agreement to take over at Man United next season.

However, critics have suggested that Mourinho would not bring through young players if he was to move to Old Trafford. Kluivert dismissed the concerns in an interview with the Mail on Sunday.

“If Mourinho sees something in young players, he will play them,” Kluivert said.

“He is bright enough to look at what the players can do and how they can work with him. If you show qualities and can handle pressure, for sure you get the chance.”

Van Gaal has taken his share of flak this season but his handling of young players has been exemplary, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Timothy Fosu-Mensah flourishing in the first team.

Mourinho does not have the best track record at bringing through youth but United can’t afford to not bring him in; the Portuguese effectively guarantees success and that is what the club needs right now.
