Ian Wright: I understand why Romelu Lukaku would want to join Manchester United

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed that he understands why Romelu Lukaku would want to move to a club such as Manchester United.

Lukaku, who has scored 25 goals in all competitions for Everton this term, hinted last week that he is looking to move on from the Merseyside club in search of Champions League football.

The player’s father recently claimed that his son should choose between a transfer to Man United or Bayern Munich. Wright insisted that Lukaku has more of a chance of making the “next step” in his career at United.

“He is used to our league. He is used to playing against the league’s players,” Wright said.

“He would be playing with better players at Manchester United. Now, if I was a player of his standing and calibre, you want to take that next step so you can learn even more. You’ve got to want to be playing in the Champions League.”

United may miss out on securing Champions League football this season but it is clear that they have superior resources to Everton and they will be hoping to make it in the long run.

Lukaku is an excellent talent and one that would add a huge amount of quality to United’s squad should they land him. It will be interesting to see how United approach the situation in the summer.
