Juan Mata praises Rashford and Fosu-Mensah for Everton performances

Juan Mata has praised Manchester United’s teenage duo Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah for their performances in the 1-0 win over Everton.

Rashford started his ninth Man United game in succession and offered us a great outlet in attack just like he always does, making sure he’s available for the ball and he was always willing to chase it down and help create space with his movement.

Fosu-Mensah had a major impact on the game because his introduction at half-time made all the difference as he had an assist within eight mates for Anthony Martial‘s goal which proved to be all the difference, and Mata was impressed with how both players got on.

Speaking about United’s goal, Mata said: “Marcus and Timothy did great, and Anthony is always dangerous in the box. It was a great team play.”

You can’t get any more befitting than that – two teenagers linking up in the build-up before laying the ball on a plate for a 20-year-old to score on the day we unveiled the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand, one of our greatest ever academy graduates.

Fosu-Mensah really is one to watch. Like Rashford in attack, Fosu-Mensah looks supremely comfortable in defence and completely ready for regular first-team football.

Van Gaal has plenty of faults as a manager but the amount of youngsters he has brought through over the last two years has been superb and unearthed a few gems.
