Van Gaal: Record against top teams will give Man United confidence against Spurs

Louis van Gaal feels Manchester United’s good record against the top sides this season will stand them in good stead ahead of the match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Man United have enjoyed an excellent set of results against the traditional top four this season but it is their record against the so-called ‘minnows’ in the Premier League that has let them down over the course of the campaign.

Van Gaal’s side beat Everton 1-0 last time out thanks to Anthony Martial’s winner. The Dutchman insisted that United will be confident heading into the clash against Spurs.

“We have to play Tottenham, not an easy match but normally we are playing very well against the top teams,” van Gaal said.

“If we continue like that I am very happy. This was not the best form because I think we were not fresh enough and we had more or less three days preparation. You never know as a manager how players are coming back from the international break but we give them already one day more off than usual, normally they have to come the next day but I allowed them to stay with their families but we started not fresh.”

Spurs are aiming to win the title and they will be raring to go when they visit Old Trafford.

However, United have taken points off the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea this term and there is no reason why they can’t do the same against Spurs.
