Louis van Gaal outlines plans for China tour despite speculation surrounding future at Manchester United

Louis van Gaal has claimed that he has overseen “every step” of Manchester United’s pre-season tour of China this summer despite speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal has come under pressure at Man United this season and widespread reports suggested Jose Mourinho is set to replace the Dutchman at the club at the end of the campaign.

However, van Gaal gave no hint that he will leave United as he explained the plan for his players during the tour of China. United’s official website also published the quotes with the headline ‘Van Gaal playing key part in tour plans’.

“Every step that has been made, I was there”, van Gaal said.

“I have to decide [on the time away] and that is why we are only going for eight days, more or less six days. I have made it deliberately short as we will not be able to train over there due to the humidity.

“It is possible that we could train in the mornings and the evenings, but we will have to see.

“It is not ideal preparation especially after the European Championships, but the players I have will train ten days ahead of the tour so we will be ready for the games, and we will then resume training when we return.”

The comments come in the same week De Telegraaf claimed that van Gaal expects to be in charge of United next season.

Confidence in van Gaal has plummeted over the course of the campaign and it’s safe to say that such a decision will not go down well with supporters. It could be a move that United live to regret.
