Man Utd could miss out on Ibrahimovic if they keep van Gaal – report

Manchester United may jeopardise their chances of signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer if they stick with Louis van Gaal next season rather than appointing Jose Mourinho, according to The Telegraph.

Mourinho has been strongly linked with a move to Man United in recent weeks and Ibrahimovic, whose contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the campaign, would consider a move to Old Trafford if the former Chelsea boss was in charge.

Ibrahimovic enjoys a good relationship with Mourinho but the same cannot be said of van Gaal.

Ibrahimovic played at Ajax while van Gaal was sporting director and the Dutchman resigned soon after selling the striker to Juventus in 2004.

In his autobiography, Ibrahimovic describes van Gaal as “a pompous ass” and last year added: “The way he is working is not the way I work.”

Regardless of the Ibrahimovic situation, it would be ludicrous to keep van Gaal on at United given the team’s awful performances over the course of the campaign. Passing up on Mourinho, a proven, world-class manager, could prove to be a huge oversight.
