Rio Ferdinand amazed by Man United’s collapse against Tottenham Hotspur

Rio Ferdinand’s reaction to Manchester United’s embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur summed up exactly how all fans are feeling at the moment.

Wow. What did we just see happen? Did Man United really just fall apart like a soggy digestive after an 18-year-old defender went off with an injury? Yes, we did.

There have been so many occasions this season where United have left us with our jaws on the floor for the wrong reasons but the absolute lack of character today at White Hart Lane has to be one of the worst things I’ve seen.

Football is a sport. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, so you can take a defeat but the manner of it was akin to a group of players who really couldn’t have cared any less. Shoulders dropped as soon as Delle Ali put Spurs 1-0 up and you could see they had already conceded to defeat.

That’s unforgivable. It doesn’t matter what the score is, you never give up but United were completely deflated by Ali’s goal and there was only going to be one winner from then on. That’s not United.

The sooner this season is over the better and today’s capitulation against Spurs is just another example as to why van Gaal cannot be our manager next season.
