Co Adriaanse believes Louis van Gaal’s ambition is to take charge of Ajax’s youth academy

Former Ajax manager Co Adriaanse believes Louis van Gaal‘s “dream job” is to be the head coach of the Dutch club’s youth academy.

Van Gaal has come under pressure at Manchester United once again following a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur that cut his side further adrift in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The veteran Dutchman enjoyed a successful spell as Ajax coach between 1991 and 1997 before working with the club as a sporting director.

“Van Gaal has the ambition to become head of the youth academy at Ajax,” Adriaanse, who held the position between 1992 and 1997, said.

“That’s what he enjoys doing most and what he has been wanting to do for a decade or so.”

Said Ouaali holds the position on a temporary basis following the departure of Wim Jonk but Ajax are still searching for a permanent replacement.

United have been awful for the majority of this campaign and it is hard to see van Gaal staying at the club for another season. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is said to be waiting in the wings to take over at Old Trafford in the event of van Gaal’s departure.
