Jose Mourinho remains confident of landing Manchester United job next season – report

Jose Mourinho remains confident of landing the Manchester United job despite reports suggesting that Louis van Gaal will stay on next season, according to ESPN.

There was speculation last week that van Gaal himself feels he will stay at Man United next term despite the huge amount of pressure he has come under over the course of the campaign.

However, this is said to be a reflection of the internal politics within United. Mourinho is expecting to become the next manager of the club and he has been working on transfer plans.

Mourinho’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has a close relationship with Ed Woodward and the pair have held discussions recently.

Mourinho would likely to sign five players for United in the summer, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Renato Sanches, Harry Kane and John Stones all said to be on his radar.

After such a dismal campaign, it would be hard to imagine van Gaal staying at United. Mourinho, a proven winner, is the ‘safest bet’ in terms of bringing United back to where they belong.
