Manchester United’s head of academy Nicky Butt is excited by the signing of Matthew Olosunde and is excited to see his development over the next few years.
The 18-year-old American born defender has already made his debut for Man United’s U18s against Brighton & Hove Albion and is a versatile youngster who is more than comfortable playing at centre-back and full-back.
Speaking about Olosunde, Butt pointed out how athletic he was at his age and was just happy the deal finally got pushed over the line.
“He’s one that’s been ongoing for a while. With the clearance, it took a while, but we’ve got him,” he said.
“He’s a good player, a nice lad and a really good athlete. Hopefully, we’ll see a lot from him in the coming years because he’s someone we’re really excited about.”
Standing at over 6ft tall, Olosunde’s physique is certainly one of his most notable attributes at this stage in his career just like it was with Timothy Fosu-Mensah when he arrived from Ajax as a 16-year-old who was always more physically developed earlier than his peers.
Olosunde is the second recent arrival from over the Atlantic when you take into account Josh Doughty‘s arrival from Real Salt Lake City Academy and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do with the U18s.
