West Ham vs Manchester United: Predicted XI – Marouane Fellaini back

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – Will need to be on his A-game as West Ham will terrorise him with lots of balls into the box.

Matteo Darmian Don’t think he should start after his shambles at Spurs but Louis van Gaal rarely makes the logical decision.

Chris Smalling – He’ll be tasked with keeping Andy Carroll quiet, although Carroll will attempt to latch onto Daley Blind more often than not.

Daley Blind – He’s handled Romelu Lukaku before, here’s hoping he can pocket Carroll.

Marcos Rojo – Don’t want him anywhere near the starting XI at the moment but again his height will be what van Gaal wants.

Morgan Schneiderlin – We’ll need him to boss the midfield and not let West Ham run straight at the defence.

Marouane Fellaini This is not a personal choice, it’s a predicted XI. Expect him to effectively man mark Carroll.

Juan Mata Was invisible against Spurs, here’s hoping he doesn’t put in a repeat performance.

Anthony Martial One of our only sparks. Can he light the fire at Upton Park?

Jesse Lingard Like Mata he was woeful at White Hart Lane but van Gaal will be pragmatic tonight so don’t expect see Memphis Depay start (even if he should).

Marcus Rashford Needs a rest but Wayne Rooney shouldn’t start as he won’t be match fit, which gives us no alternative but to keep starting Marcus.

Formation: 4-2-3-1 – Both midfielders will sit deep and the onus will be on Mata to bridge the gap between midfield and attack.
