Timothy Fosu-Mensah hails Marcus Rashford after FA Cup win over West Ham

Timothy Fosu-Mensah was full of praise for teammate Marcus Rashford in the wake of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over West Ham United in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Rashford netted his sixth goal for Man United at Upton Park, opening the scoring on 54 minutes after sending a splendid curled effort past Darren Randolph.

Both Rashford and Fosu-Mensah broke into the first team back in February and they have taken no time at all to endear themselves to the United faithful. The Dutchman took to Twitter to express his excitement at the prospect of a visit to Wembley for the semi-finals of the Cup:

In a season where the club’s traditions have been largely butchered by Louis van Gaal, the rise of Rashford and Fosu-Mensah is something to smile about. Indeed, the prominence of youth, regardless of whether it was voluntary or forced, is a tradition that van Gaal has respected and maintained during his tenure at the club.

Fosu-Mensah was a beacon of aggression throughout Wednesday’s game, carrying on from where he left off against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.

But despite such a complete performance from the Dutchman, the spotlight will be once again on the insatiable talent of Rashford, who, at 18, continues to defy the conventions of modern football with his rise to stardom. It feels as if these two, if they continue in the same way, will have incredible careers at United.
