Daley Blind was once again arguably Manchester United’s man of the match in another composed performance at centre-back in today’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
The Dutchman has been one of Man United’s best players all season long in a position which isn’t natural to him and up against a poor Villa side he was rarely tested but for a small push from them at the tail end of the match.
Alongside Chris Smalling, Blind’s partnership at the heart of our defence is continuing to grow. I’m not sure whether he’ll be playing there next season after we’ve signed a new centre-back but it’s massively impressive just how composed he is in a position he wasn’t signed to play.

Blind is one of the most intelligent centre-backs in the Premier League. He is always thinking one step ahead and rarely finds himself in a situation he doesn’t want to be in.
On so many occasions this season, Blind has dealt with strikers who critics thought would get the better of him and although Villa didn’t do much to trouble him at Old Trafford in a muted game, I really enjoy watching him there because he’s so cultured.
There have been plenty of signings under van Gaal which didn’t work out or are yet to come to fruition properly but bringing Blind to Old Trafford was one of the best transfers the Dutchman made.
