David de Gea: Manchester United’s clean sheet against Aston Villa will build confidence

David de Gea believes Manchester United’s clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday will help build the team’s confidence.

Man United laboured at times against Villa, particularly during a nervy period late on, but they managed to secure the victory thanks to Marcus Rashford’s winner.

The result meant United kept themselves in the race to finish in the top four and De Gea was happy to get the win.

“I think in the end of the game the team was a bit tired but sometimes you have to win the games like we did today,” he said.

“To keep a clean sheet is good for us again with our confidence.”

United should have done much better against Villa, the Premier League’s bottom side, but results are all that matter at this stage of the season and Louis van Gaal will be happy to keep the top four ambitions alive.

De Gea had a relatively quiet afternoon against Villa but he should be much busier against Crystal Palace on Wednesday and against Everton in the FA Cup this weekend.
