Sir Alex Ferguson gives his approval for Jose Mourinho at Man United – report

Sir Alex Ferguson has allegedly given his approval for Jose Mourinho to take over at Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

It is believed Sir Alex and Sir Bobby Charlton had strong doubts over the Portuguese boss replacing Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford based on pre-conceptions and opinions of him from his previous jobs in football.

However, former United fanzine Red Issue suggests there is now an acceptance from Sir Alex about Mourinho coming in.

How much influence does Fergie still have at United behind the scenes? I suppose that’s the real question about this but David Moyes’ arrival was down to Fergie’s recommendation and as a member of the board he’s still involved in the decision making process.

From my own personal perspective, I’ve done the same thing and am now waving a white flag for Mourinho. Back when Fergie retired, I took the morale high ground as a fan and felt our new manager shouldn’t be Jose because I didn’t completely agree with his style. That opinion has changed after what’s happened at United over the last three years.

Now, United are in need of somebody who is capable of helping the club truly rebuild and I think Mourinho is the man to make that happen.
