Charlie Nicholas urges Louis van Gaal to start Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial against Crystal Palace

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal should start both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Martial was rested for the game against Aston Villa last time out and Man United struggled to create chances in the Frenchman’s absence.

Rashford settled the clash 1-0 with a first half winner at Old Trafford but Villa might have earned themselves a point had Rudy Gestede’s late effort not hit the post. Nicholas backed the United duo to both score if they start against Palace.

“United were really poor at the weekend, which was strange because of the improvements they’ve made and again it’s Marcus Rashford that gets them out of it,” Nicholas said.

“Villa were waiting to get battered and looked surprised when they realised they could have got something. Louis van Gaal has to play Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford and I’d back them both to score if he does, but I’m not expecting them to run riot.”

United have been poor for the majority of the season and the dull display against Villa did not come as much of a surprise.

A top four finish in the Premier League and the FA Cup are at stake as United head into the final part of the campaign and they will need to be much better if they are to make a success of their campaign.
