Michael Owen has been appointed as Liverpool’s first official club ambassador and there has been a serious backlash from Liverpool fans on Twitter.
Having played for Manchester United and winning the Premier League title with us, it’s safe to say Liverpool fans aren’t best pleased Owen was chosen ahead of the likes of Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush.

I am delighted to become an International Ambassador for @LFC. It's a real privilege for me to officially represent the Club once again.

Reading the replies to Liverpool’s announcement made for some excellent afternoon entertainment:

Of course, we couldn’t resist having a little dig of our own at Liverpool after the announcement:
I’m not surprised the scousers are furious as this is the equivalent of United making Paul Ince a club ambassador, no thanks, but it certainly makes for good viewing as far as United fans are concerned.
Cheers for the laughs Liverpool and what a cock-up by their PR department to choose Owen. Hopefully he’ll be made so busy with this new role that he’ll have to stop commentating for BT Sport, then at least we’d all be happy.
