Manchester United fans satisfied with Wayne Rooney’s performance against Crystal Palace

Manchester United fans were pleased to see Wayne Rooney put in a confident display in their side’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The Man United captain, who has recently returned from injury, played 78 minutes and cut a poised figure throughout the game.

He produced a dynamic display in an unusual role in central midfield, controlling play well whilst looking to set up attacks. United fans were quick to note how well Rooney operated in the middle of the park:

The 30-year-old has proven to be a sluggish figure when returning from injury in the past; but there were no signs of rustiness from Rooney on Wednesday as he excelled in his new midfield role.

Alongside Juan Mata, with Morgan Schneiderlin providing cover, the captain looked comfortable and will no doubt take heaps of confidence into this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Everton.

However, in the interest of providing some realism, Rooney was up against a notably depleted Crystal Palace lineup, who haven’t won on the road in nine games. For someone still easing back into full fitness, they were the ideal opponent. Questions still remain, however, over how the No.10 will perform in a more volatile environment, like the one awaiting them at Wembley.
