Chris Smalling allayed any injury concerns by taking part in Manchester United’s final training session today at Carrington before Saturday’s trip to Wembley.
Everton stand between us and our first FA Cup final since 2006 and we are certainly favourites heading into the tie after their 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool which condemned them to seven games without a win in the Premier League.
For both sides the pressure is on after two disappointing seasons in their own right and for Man United, having a fit and ready Smalling is a big boost.
Alongside David de Gea, Smalling has been the linchpin at the heart of our defence which has seen us keep 17 clean-sheets in 34 Premier League games. Although Romelu Lukaku has been pretty ineffective against us in both league games this year, he is undoubtedly Everton’s most dangerous player so we need to make sure we keep him quiet.
We’ve seen a major transformation from Smalling over the last 18 months and on a sunny afternoon at Wembley, United fans will be looking towards him to lead our defence and help us reach the final in May.
