Luke Shaw injury update: My leg feels great

by Sam Peoples

Luke Shaw was particularly upbeat about how his recovery was going when questioned by MUTV this week and said his leg felt great every time he stepped outside onto the training pitches.

The 20-year-old returned to outdoor training last month in the next big step towards recovery and Manchester United fans were delighted to see him doing that after the horrors of the last seven months.

Through hard work and determination Shaw has got himself to this stage by early May and he’s hoping to be back before the end of the season if everything goes to plan.

When told it was great to see him back in training, Shaw responded: “I am back outside now, still with the physio but, day by day, I am getting better and fitter.

“I am just going to keep pushing now until the end of the season and see what happens. At the moment, my leg feels really great every time I go outside. There was a bit of aching at the start but now they are all gone. It is just back to hard work now and hopefully I will see the fans before the end of the season.”

That’s superb news to hear his leg pain has subsided, allowing him to just concentrate on the fitness side of things. There’s still a long way to go but everything to this point has gone to plan.

It’s been a lonely season for Shaw watching from the sidelines and he’s just itching to be back on the pitch doing what he loves.

“Yeah, of course. I have missed football so much,” he continued.

“It was hard for me to watch it at times because I missed it so much and I just wanted to be out there. Now I am on my comeback and I can start enjoying watching it, because soon I will out on the pitch with the lads. It is great to be back in the changing room with them so I am really looking forward to it.”

Shaw gave a special thank you to all the medical staff at United for their help in his rehabilitation and having seen the facilities at Carrington myself, they’re second to none so we know he’s had the best treatment he could possibly get.

We’ve desperately missed Shaw this season and I don’t think his absence should be underestimated because full-backs are the linchpin of van Gaal’s philosophy. Without him, we’ve struggled and switched between plenty of different left-backs but none have been able to replace Shaw completely. Thankfully, he’s now closing in on his return and it shouldn’t be too long before we see him back in a United shirt, what a glorious day that will be for both him and the fans.
