Louis van Gaal defends Marouane Fellaini by pulling reporter’s hair

Louis van Gaal took the unusual step of pulling a reporter’s hair to defend Marouane Fellaini in the wake of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Sunday.

Leicester’s Robert Huth grabbed a handful of Fellaini’s hair in the first half at Old Trafford and the Belgian reacted by elbowing his opponent and swinging a hand towards his face.

There are calls for Fellaini to be retrospectively banned by the FA but van Gaal defended his player, albeit in a bizarre way:

Van Gaal is a quirky character and supporters have come to expect some bizarre behaviour from him over the course of the campaign.

Fellaini certainly had every right to be aggrieved by Huth but his reaction was unwarranted, to say the least.

Dele Alli was recently handed a three-game ban by the FA for punching West Brom’s Claudio Jacob and Fellaini could suffer a similar fate in the coming days. Amid suggestions that Roma are interested in him, Fellaini may well have played his last game for United.
