Louis van Gaal feels Manchester United must win all of their remaining Premier League games to secure a top four finish this season.
Man United are currently in fifth place in the league table, five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.
However, Manchester City, level on points with Arsenal in third, still have to take on Arsene Wenger’s side on May 8th. Van Gaal claimed that the game will have a say on who finishes in the top four.
“We have to close the gap so the pressure is on us still. We have to win every game that we have to play,” he said.
“City still have to play against Arsenal, though, so one of those shall lose points.”
Finishing outside the top four would be a huge setback for United after they worked so hard to get in there last term. But it is remarkable that United have kept themselves in contention for Champions League qualification at all given their largely abysmal form over the course of the campaign.
Van Gaal’s side have been quietly building momentum for themselves in recent weeks with wins over the likes of Crystal Palace and Everton and they will be hoping to capitalise on the mixed form of Arsenal and City above them. It is vital that United at least keep themselves in the race with a win over title-chasing Leicester on Sunday.
