Manchester United fans furious with Louis van Gaal’s comments on the season

Manchester United fans have reacted with shock following Louis van Gaal’s assertion that his side’s injury problems have been to blame for their poor form this season.

Man United suffered an injury crisis around the Christmas period earlier this term, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw and Bastian Schweinsteiger all sidelined for extended periods of time.

And during that spell, United suffered demoralising defeats against teams such as Norwich City, Bournemouth and Stoke City. However, van Gaal insisted his side are one of the best teams in the Premier League when they are injury-free, a comment fans ridiculed:

It’s hard to disagree with the supporters as van Gaal’s negative style of play contributed to a complete breakdown in confidence among the players earlier on in the season.

The Dutchman seems to prioritise possession above all else at Old Trafford, often at the cost of attacking verve and invention. As a result, United are barely clinging on in the race to finish in the top four, although they do have an FA Cup final to look forward to.

Van Gaal often shifts the blame elsewhere but sooner or later he is going to have to accept that his decisions have contributed to a lacklustre campaign at United.
